  • Firmware Update tool issue

Howdy! I tried to start the Firmware Update tool on my Windows 10 laptop and a message popped up telling me that "The serial port configured is not available or in-use" When I click on the message, the message fades and ... nothing! I never get to change the serial port selection. Anyone have ideas? I'll try removing and then reloading the Firmware update tool and see if that solves the problem. Stay tuned!

What firmware tool are you speaking of?
Also, if you have any software running that uses a serial port, then it will hold the handle to that port. You will have to shut down that software before anybody else can get the handle.
Circumstances don't determine who we are, they only reveal it.

Allen Bradley's RSLinx is famous for grabbing the serial port (if a serial link is defined and RSLinx is run as a service). This would happen even if you are not currently running a program, like RSLogix, which needs that link.
